UNBOUND

Phase 1 of my muse project revolved around expressing my insecurity around social anxiety and immersing the wearer in a feeling of constraint. While this approach was personally motivating, I now seek to shift my focus in Phase 2 toward promoting positive development.

In phase 2, I aim to pay tribute to individuals who grapple with social anxiety, encouraging them to break free from inhibitions and embrace self-confidence and self-expression. The project will emphasize themes of social relations, healing, and confidence. A portion of the collection will retain the ideas and designs from Phase 1, while the other part will focus on subverting societal judgments, both external and internal, and promoting self-acceptance. As a unique touch, I plan to incorporate elements of Korean culture into the collection, symbolizing my journey away from the roots of my anxiety, which can be traced back to my early childhood experiences in Korea. Specifically, I will explore the concept of the 'red thread of fate,' a belief deeply rooted in folklore and mythology, explaining the notion of predestined connections and relationships. Red thread motifs, combined with my craft of shibori dye, along with various new techniques extracted from the sub-themes will further strengthen my collection.
